VIM Desktop is Slow or Crashes on Startup
If the VIM Desktop application crashes on startup, try the following:
-
Make sure your device meets the Minimum Hardware Requirements.
- Verify that your graphics device is listed here: https://vulkan.gpuinfo.org/
-
Make sure your graphics device drivers are up to date.
-
Make sure to set your graphic settings to Prefer Maximum Performance.
-
Set your device's power settings to Best Performance to avoid slow framerates.
-
Uninstall Microsoft OpenCL, OpenGL, and Vulkan Compatibility Pack (if present) by going to your start menu > "Add or Remove Programs".
-
Manually install the latest version of the Vulkan SDK for Windows.
noteNVIDIA Quadro graphics devices typically require the manual installation of the Vulkan SDK for Windows.
-
⚡ If you are using a laptop, make sure it is plugged into an active power source which can supply appropriate power to your device.
Troubleshooting AnecdoteWe once had a laptop plugged into an electrical outlet which did not provide enough power to the device, and switching outlets fixed the issue.
