Working With Parameters
Part 1 - Parameter Basics & Measures
Use the parameter measure templates to display values.
Part 2 - Promoting Parameters
For a more robust use of parameters, promote them from rows to columns.
Steps
-
Find parameters to extract, confirm they have values
 -
Identify which table they are in (Instance, Type, Family)
 -
Choose the Parameters you want to promote, in our example:
- Area
 - Base Finish
 - Department
 - Wall Finish
 - *All "AHFG" parameters

 -
Pick proper parameter table (Instance, Type, Family)
 -
Reference Existing Parameter Table
 -
Optional - Filter by Category Name
 -
Filter Descriptor_Name
 -
Delete every column except these three:
- Descriptor_Name
 - Element
 - Parameter_Text&Quantity (choose the right one based on the units):
- Imperial.ft
 - Metric.mm
 - Metric.m

 -
Pivot Table
- Select Descriptor_Name
 - Pivot
 - Values Column = Parameter_Text&Quantity
 - Don't Aggregate

 -
Change units of new columns
 -
Connect to Element Table
 -
Integrate into report

Part 3 - Using Promoted Parameters & Color Coding
Once a parameter is promoted, it can be used like any other columns, including for color coding.
